  16. Prepare 1 teaspoon Cumin powder
  17. Take as per taste Salt
  18. Make ready 1/2 teaspoon sugar

  20. Take 2 tablespoons Coriander leaves
  21. Take 1 tablespoon shredded carrot
Instructions to make Onion-Carrot Semiya Upma:
  1. Roast vermicelli in ghee till they look slightly golden.
  2. Heat water and add to the roasted vermicelli. Switch off flame immediately.
  3. Cover with a lid and set aside for 5 minutes.
  4. You will find Semiya will look swelled and soft. Pas it through sieve and discard water. Set aside and prepare the carrot-onion tempering.
  5. Chop and prepare all vegetables required. Heat ghee, add mustard seeds. After the seeds have spluttered add both the lentils and let them brown a little.
  6. All the spice is coming from chillies alone, so I have added 3 green chillies, you can also add red chilli powder if you prefer. Add curry leaves too at this point.
  7. Add onions and green peas, cover and let the peas soften.
  8. Add asafoetida.
  9. Add the shredded carrots and let it cook for 2 minutes.
  10. Now add cumin powder, salt and sugar. Mix well.
  11. Add the cooked vermicelli and mix gently, without breaking.
  12. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves.
  13. Sprinkle some shredded carrots for that beautiful colour and Serve hot.
