  1. Wash the dal properly. Boil it adding some salt and a few drops of oil. Boil till mushy. Keep aside.
  2. Clean the veggies and chop them into big chunks.
  3. In a pan heat oil. Add mustard seeds and let crackle.
  4. Add in whole red chilli and bay leaf. Add in the veggies (lady fingers, onions,garlic, tomatoes etc)
  5. Add salt and red chilli powder and cook till the veggies are done.
  6. Add the dal when the veggies are tender. Add the sambhar powder and simmer till they blend.
  7. In the end add tamarind pulp and adjust consistency. Cook on low flame till the pulp mix well. Add a tbsp of ghee if you wish.
  8. Turn off the gas and serve it with rice.
